At 34 years, he is owner and manager of WH Shannon Ltd, a plumbing firm with four branches in the South Island and more to be opened soon.
He was named Young Executive of the Year at a charity luncheon in Wellington on Friday.--The event was organised and promoted by the New Zealand Institute of Management and Management magazine.--Early next year he would fly to Belfast for the final of the Worldcom World Young business Achiever Award.
Judges said that in managing the rapid growth of this plumbing company, Mr Routhan had faced and overcome serious difficulties, had displayed obvious entrepreneurship and innovation, developed a loyal and competitive staff and maintained financial stability in his firm during a period of rapid expansion.

He is vice-present of the Canterbury Master Plumbers’ Association and was one of eight people invited to help develop a national strategic plan for the industry.--He was the second successive winner of the New Zealand award to come from the southern region, last year’s winner was Chris O’Reilly, chief executive of Christchurch Transport Ltd.
The other regional finalists in this year’s event were Lyndelle Wiig, District Commissioner Inland Revenue, Napier, and Russell Stanners, telecommunications and media industry manger, IBM New Zealand Ltd, Auckland.
